Hello NAMS Families,

Please be sure to review this important information here or below regarding state mandated screenings that are required for students.  

Please Note:

• Grade 7 students have hearing, vision, heights, weights and SBIRT screenings scheduled for the week of October 20th.  
• All students have Scoliosis screenings later in the school year.  

If you wish to Opt your student out of these screenings please notify the NAMS nurses in writing by October 15th.  Our email addresses are as follows:

Information About Screenings

Postural Screening

• The state of Massachusetts mandates that all students in grades 5 through 9 be screened for scoliosis. Physician referrals will be made as needed.

 

Information About Grade 7 Screenings

Vision Screening

• Vision screening is conducted for all grades 1 – 5, 7 and 10. Parents are notified if the student does not pass for referral to their physician for follow-up.

Hearing Screening

• Hearing screening is conducted for all grades K - 3, 7 and 10. Parents are notified if the student does not pass for referral to their physician for follow-up

SBIRT Screening (Student Brief Intervention and Referral to Treatment for Substance Use)

• This screening takes place in 7th and 9th grades.
