WELCOME & HOURS

The Health Office is located directly off of the main lobby in the 8th grade hallway. Hours are 7:20 a.m. to 2:20 p.m., Monday through Friday during the school year. We welcome you to call the office or stop in anytime to discuss your child’s health care needs or if you have any questions.

ATTENTION 6th and 7th GRADE PARENTS/GUARDIANS

Students entering 7th grade are required to have a booster dose of Tdap Vaccine, a 2nd Chicken Pox Vaccine along with a Meningococcal vaccine. Please send documentation of these vaccines to the Health Office. Y0u can send a hard copy, email a scanned copy or have your doctor's office fax the records to us at 978-396-9586.

Entry & Attendance Requirements

Also, be advised that students are required to submit one physical exam while attending the middle school. Please contact your child's primary care provider and make arrangements for him/her to receive their immunization and/or physical exam before the start of the school year. Send physician documented dates to the Health Office before the start of the school year or following the appointment.

Medications

If your child requires an EpiPen, Inhaler, or a Daily Medication, an order and consent form is required to be filled out by you and your physician that will remain on file in the Health Office for the current school year.

Students are not permitted to carry their own medications except for the following:

Students with diabetes are permitted to keep all their diabetic supplies with them.
Students with asthma are permitted to carry their inhalers with them.
Students with severe allergies are permitted to carry their epi-pens with them.
Students with Cystic Fibrosis are permitted to carry their enzymes with them.

Annual Screening for Students

Grades 6, 7 & 8:

Postural Screening: All students in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students will be screened for Scoliosis per Massachusetts law. If your child needs further evaluation you will receive a letter from the health office. In order to opt your student out of this screening, you must submit an opt-out request in writing to the school nurses on an annual basis.

Grade 7:

Heights and Weights: Heights and weights are measured and body mass index (BMI) is calculated for all students in grade 7.
Vision and Hearing: Vision and hearing screening is done yearly in grade 7. Parents will be notified of any problems that necessitate a medical follow-up.
SBIRT: Screening, Brief Intervention and Referral to Treatment for Substance Use: This screening takes place in 7th grade. For more information see the Letter to Parents about SBIRT.

*Parents/guardians may opt out of a particular screening by submitting a written request to the school nurse.

The Knights' Closet

The Knights’ Closet is a resource available to all members of the NAMS and NAPS community. Essentially it is NAMS’ very own thrift shop. It is a store-like space where students can go to receive new and gently used clothing, jackets and shoes as well as new health and hygiene products at no cost. Open to anyone with a need, it is accessed discreetly, respecting the dignity and privacy of those who use it. Inside, students and families can find racks of donated attire in a variety of styles and sizes.The Knights’ Closet can help meet the basic needs of our students while also promoting security and self-esteem without the weight of financial burden.
